I am new here. I look forward to discussions and reading posts that interest me.
My first and enduring exposure to music was Irish Traditional. I became imprinted on Planxty and The Bothy Band in the 1970s. I also like classical and related things such as oratorio and opera. One of my fond memories is of attending a performance of Don Giovanni in Munich with Denis O'Neill singing the lead role.
Here is a question for which I'd like suggestions. I would like to buy christmas present for someone who paints and whom I would like to introduce to classical music. Is there a book about Mussorgsky's Pictures at and Exhibition? I have in mind something more extensive than sleeve notes. Failing that maybe you could recommend a book about Mussorgsky or Ravel.
I look forward to your suggestions.
Hello!
This one comes to mind.

There's also the visually beautiful DVD animated version by Mikhaïl Rudy, based on Kandinsky's project (region-free DVD of the Centre Pompidou).
