For St. Patrick's Day, my wife is making a dessert that combines Guinness, Baileys, and Irish Whiskey (think there is some actual chocolate in there somewhere). I rarely drink hard liquor, but a recent article about scotch in Wine Spectator caught my attention.
I noticed in the other thread someone was drinking Jameson's. Tullamore Dew seems pretty well respected around the web and I didn't want to spend a fortune, so I picked up a bottle. Do you have any thoughts on Irish Whiskey? How do you drink it--cold? room temp? Straight or with water (tonic, still?, how much?)
Many scotch snobs seem to think that blended versions are complete and total crap, but the author of the article in WS said that is basically BS. ?? (Yes, I know Irish whiskey is not technically scotch.)
I have had Tullamore Dew. Fine peaty taste.
Which is the problem. I do not like smoky taste, so in general I avoid any whisky which was made with peat.
But as a representative of the Emerald Isle, Tullamore will do quite well. Serve it as you would any whisky (in my case, that means neat in a room temp glass)

Bushmill's Single Malt is good. Not peaty.
