Title: One volume histories of music (alternatives to Grout)
Post by: XB-70 Valkyrie on October 14, 2015, 09:55:13 PM
I have Grout. I have read it and don't doubt its greatness. However, I do not really enjoy reading much of it and would like some other alternatives. I am currently reading Alfred Einstein's A Short History of Music, and while it is certainly engaging and well written (for the most part), I wonder what several decades of musical scholarship have uncovered since it was written. What other alternatives are there?
