Shostakovich's fifteen symphonies tend to get a lot of the praise, but his six concertos are all significant contributions to the 20th century repertoire. Which is your favourite?
No question: VC 1. That passacaglia is one of the most moving pieces of music I know.
I listen to the first Cello most often. Must be my favorite.

Havergal Brian's Violin Concerto also has a passacaglia (composed 13 years before Shosty's). Very moving too, in its own way.

Exact same thing for me.
And the better the soloist can get the devil to dance, the more I like it.

Easy poll: Violin Concerto No. 1 of course and always.
They are all magnificent, and very unique concertos. However, I would also chose Violin Concerto No. 1 as my favourite. That Passacaglia is to die for. :)

I didn't expect to be the only person voting for either piano concerto!
I enjoy both Piano Concertos immensely and equally. Especially their mesmerizing slow movements.

It certainly is bleak, but that might be stretching it a bit. 0:)
Thread duty - haven't voted, because I like them all.
Cello Concerto no. 2 has a special place because I heard
Natalia Gutman play it live (and she actually sat next to me for the symphony after the intermission and signed my program).
