What your Top 5 Favorites from Fauré? I will sit this one out a bit since I'm still discovering the composer's oeuvre.

Requiem
Cello Sonata no.1 (uncharacteristic)
Piano Quartet no.1
Ballade for Piano & Orchestra

- as for the 5th work, I am less certain. I  guess the 2nd Piano Quartet would somehow be against the spirit of the poll.

Excellent list, Turner and, no, choosing Piano Quartet No. 2 would in no way be against the spirit of this thread, especially since these are your own choices. Now, if I had put some kind of stipulation or regulation on the thread, that would would be a different matter completely of course. :)

Good to know :). The two piano quartets have always been my favourite works by him.

Will have to correct myself, though - I mean the 1st Cello Sonata, not the second; the first is unusually abrupt and "Russian"-sounding in its style, almost Shostakovich-like, for Faure.

Requiem
Piano Quintet No. 2
String Quartet
Nocturnes
La chanson d'Ève

It was really hard to choose a single song cycle.

Oh, golly.

Piano Quintet No.1
Violin Sonata No.1
Nocturne No.6
Barcarolle No.5
Piano Quintet No.2

These are gut reactions without having listened to anything for a while. It's been too long for the songs, perhaps I'd go for Mirages as the set I remember being most taken by.
