Hello all from Verona, Italy !
I read this forum for quite some time ... and I always thought it was magnificently structured, and also frequented by many passionate and competent people. I finally decided to participate.
In life my interests are knowledge, art music, visual arts, art cinema, reading, science, philosophy and thinking, ...
But everything passionate me, so i love also "low" things.
I'm listening to music since i was born, a consuming passion.
I loved and love many composers, clearly listenings and insights always continue, but few are those for whom i have an obsessive interest ! Among them especially Sergey Prokofiev and Alfred Schnittke (i don't have never recovered from the shock of listening to his Peer Gynt, one of the things i love intensely ...)
I'm here mainly for companionship and exchange of interests.
I think that's all for now.
Hi ludwigii, and welcome. Nice to see Prokofiev and Schnittke get some love! Hope you have a good time here.

I'd like to think we're all magnificent too. And how are the two gentlemen and Romeo + Juliet doing these days?
Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your time here and look forward to reading your posts.

Welcome from the country of Peer Gynt - written while Ibsen lived in Italy by the way.

A very warm welcome !!
I love your home town Verona, which is quite special for me in two respects
1) For opera lovers, its summer festival is a real treat.
2) Its very close from the Dolomites, my favorite mountain range in Europe.
Welcome!
Benvenuto nel forum, è bello vedere qualche altro utente dall'Italia. :)

Welcome aboard! Can't go wrong with Prokofiev or Schnittke (two of my favorites). Speaking of Schnittke's
Peer Gynt, I created a thread dedicated to this magnificent ballet: http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,25167.msg918925.html#msg918925 (http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,25167.msg918925.html#msg918925), so please feel free to come back and share your own listening experiences with us.

;) All are fine here in Verona, beautiful city !
By the way, another ballet that I really love is Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev, but it's obvious, is a masterpiece.

Thank you.
I'm also a fan of Grieg but I have not yet read the work of Ibsen, hope to remedy soon.

Hi ! I noticed your review on Amazon, as well as that thread. I knew I had to come to write something ;)
I discovered Schnittke's Peer Gynt in the early nineties, then it was not so "popular", YT did not exist, i think.
For me it was a revelation, and since then it's one of my desert island records, an experience of extraordinary intensity.
As soon as i feel, i'll write something in your thread. I understand your enthusiasm :)
Thank you all for your kind welcomes !!
I'm very happy.

You're right, two good reasons !
Welcome and enjoy!
I hope you enjoy the site and hang around. Much Roman ruins there in your town?

By the way, another ballet that I really love is Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev, but it's obvious, is a masterpiece.
It is the most famous Romeo and Juliet, but there are 24 operas composed after Romeo and Juliet, the most famous lovers of the western world. Besides Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Berlioz, Gounod, Massenet, Bellini works are must hear and probably many more. This work has of course crossed the classical boundaries, through West Side Story first and all the way to Dire Straits "Romeo and Juliet".
When you visit Verona, its easy to visit all the wonderful churches and monasteries (St Zeno has a fabulous cloister https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_of_San_Zeno,_Verona (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_of_San_Zeno,_Verona), Sant Anastasia is a beauty https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sant'Anastasia_%28Verona%29 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sant'Anastasia_%28Verona%29)) , but the balcony at the "Casa di Giulietta", that another story. Its really the most famous place on earth for lovers.

Thanks to both ! :)
The most famous Roman monument of Verona is the so called "Arena" an amphitheater where in summer takes place an opera festival.

I've been under it. Also at the Arena for Turandot. 8)
Welcome, Ludwig, and enjoy. We seem to share many interests indeed. And it follows from many of them that I would very much like to visit Verona - along with the rest of Italy. What is that painting in your avatar, by the way?

Thanks for the warm welcome ! I looked at your beautiful pictures, but I'll watch more carefully later.
My avatar is a work of Henry Scott Tuke, artist best known for his paintings of nude boys and young men 8)
See you in the forum.
