Title: Garry Shandling dies at 66
Post by: James on March 25, 2016, 07:47:41 AM
This one kind-of hurts, I absolutely loved The Larry Sanders Show, a show at the very pinnacle of TV & comedy, right up there with The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and the very best .. .. it brought a lot of comfort and many, many laughs, it was brilliant. Shandling was a great comic, a true favorite. R.I.P.

Another one who died too soon.

I recall watching It's Garry Shandling's Show on Dutch telly during my college years and laughing a lot when Shandling turned to the audience, breaking the 4th wall again ... especially when he had that epic WTF expression on his face. (And I liked the theme song, of course.)

Rest in peace.

I have the complete Larry Sanders on DVD and it was about the most expensive box set I ever bought; but I was so keen to have it for keeps. He was quite out there with a lot of what went on in the show ans unafraid to go with the character's appalling defects.

He should have had decades longer, a great shame.

One of the funniest comedians I know. I especially like his earlier appearances on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show. I will pull out the DVD this weekend.
Rest in Peace.

Wait, instead, knock them dead while in heaven!

I have been holding out on that set, hoping for a blu-ray release .. in the 6 years it ran, not a single bad episode.

Some of the first series looks like it was recorded off the TV by a kid with a reel to reel hand held camera; the stock clearly had deterioriated quite a bit. But it was worth it. The later series have a better sound and vision quality.

So many great moments and with so many famous people who were prepared to take on very unflattering scripts; all to ther credit.
