Time certainly goes by. Believe it or not, the first time I saw Casablanca in its entirety was last Christmas in - Casablanca. Rick's Café, to be exact. Not the one in the movie, which was just a set, but designed to resemble it (not very succesfully, IMO, but the place has its own colonial charm). Upstairs, they play Casablanca on repeat. A gimmick with no sound, just subtitles, but the movie's charm was intact.

I hear Morocco is great, would like to visit it sometime. There is something to be said for the firm hand of a monarchy as opposed to other civilian or military types of government that never quite made it in the Middle East.

I also want to go there.

Yes, when we were there, we had a lot of interesting discussions regarding that topic. In general, it seems Moroccans truly love their current king (Mohammed VI) and he's been an improvement over his predecessor for sure.

In any case, it's a lovely place to visit. I'm definitely coming back to hike in the Atlas mountain range and I'd also like to spend some time in the desert. Casablanca itself is quite modern and not as enticing as some other, more traditional places (e.g. the Marrakesh medina), but the Grand Mosque is a sight to behold and the fish markets at the port are lots of fun.
