Gee, much of the crowd here looks familiar. Surprisingly, the thing that really forced me to join up here is that I actually lost my password for the other site. It was on a hard drive that went bust with no backups.
Anyway, for those of you who don't know me, I'm an all-around music lover who has a particular passion for music from roughly 1850-1950, especially German and Viennese music, but also Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Janacek, and so forth. Outside of that, I love Bach, Mozart, Takemitsu, Messiaen, Monteverdi, Beethoven, and lots of others.
I'm looking forward to seeing how things turn out here in a new community.
Hello, Mahlerian -- I have a funny feeling we might, just might, share a love of a certain composer. ;D
In any case, welcome and enjoy.

Hi Mahlerian (are you really THAT Mahlerian??).
I'm very happy to see you here. Welcome! :)
Quite strange to see newbie beside your name...
Hello n00b ;D First I thought something else had been done to your account. It's good, in a way at least, that it was just you losing your password...

Well, that wasn't the
only thing that happened, but I'm much more willing to leave everything about that site in the past. No reason to get into it here.
Hi guy. Try to stay out of trouble for awhile, OK? I'm only good for that kind of excitement every couple years or so. Guide on mild mannered Le Monsieur Cloche.
:D
Welcome!
Holy shit GMG just got a top first-round draft pick

I am naturally sceptical if it is the real Mahlerian or not.
I am openly Xenakiboy, I left TC shortly after you left. Tell me something only the real Mahlerian would know?
When I sent my variation to you for the TC variations project, you told me that you couldn't accept a file in Sibelius format.
That variation, incidentally, was written in my favorite(?) key of B minor and was based on a very slowed-down version of the theme you wrote. I have the original .sib file on my computer right now.
Happy, I hope?

My younger brother told me a great story about one time he was dragged to a medium whom some members of the family wanted to get in spiritual with a departed great-aunt. My cheekily clever brother asked the "spirit," what is your middle name?
Welcome and enjoy.
Welcome, Mahlerian, from another old noobie :-)
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mahlerian is a good guy.
Our orchestra performed a great transcription he did of the Schoenberg Sechs Kleine Klavierstucke.
I think there is a YouTube of the McLean Symphony performing it. Unfortunately it is not a very good recording. We sounded better in the live performance.
There were many in the audience who said it was their favorite work on the program.
Nice to see you here. :)
I joined this site today, and who follows me next? Mahlerian!
I wasn't as active elsewhere but I sure learnt a lot from your insightful posts.
So glad to see you here Mahlerian!!!! I feel at peace knowing that you aren't being brutally tortured in a hidden room inside an organ in Denmark!!! ;D
Welcome! And congratulations for that excellent review of the Stravinsky / Herreweghe disc...
Best regards from Madrid,
Great to see you here, Mahlerian!

Quite similar taste Mirror Image it seems (although I don't he has analysed/studied this music in the great depth that you have). He says he will be back towards the end of this year or the start of the next........I would find conversations between you and him about this repertoire so interesting. 8)

I think we're both delighted to have the company of Mahlerian on GMG. His presence tends to civilize the atmosphere, anyway!
I did want to
assert, though, that putting all rumors to the contrary aside, I am indeed a mild mannered pussycat :P

However, glad to have the chance to read you again.
This is Stavrogin.

Yes.
Surely they would play Schoenberg's String Quartet No. 2 in F-sharp minor at the inauguration? 8)

I had fun being
Mahleristani briefly; but reckoned that with all the newbies, that lark (even a brief lark) might be unnecessarily confusing.

Well, we wish the best to all expatriates as well.
Welcome aboard, Mahlerian! I remember you from the 'other' forum. I hope you enjoy your time here and never return to that dreadful 'other' forum. You and I have very similar tastes, so I'll be reading your posts with great anticipation.

The 'other forum' isn't dreadful, but its owner may be.

The moderators and owner(s) are the ones who set the tone for everything. If they make it an unpleasant experience, then it's a dreadful place to visit. The members are fine, but they're not in control and certainly don't dictate
how the general atmosphere of a forum will come across.
'evening, Mahlerian. Good to see you in action again.
Everyone else has said hello, so I thought I would too.
Hello.
I have been trying to keep track of the activity in the other forum. Based on the analysis I have done so far it seems that there has been a significant decrease in discussions concerning post 19th century music. If one excludes the more popular tonalists like Rachmaninoff, Sibelius or Shostakovich the decline is very dramatic.
Mahlerian started a great thread called "I Am no a Modernist". Over in the other forum one can vote if they liked a particular post. Mahlerian opening post received the most likes of any that I have ever seen, over sixty. Out of curiosity I checked on the status of the members who voted support for the post. About 25% are no longer active.
