Whose music do you like of composers who were born in the 1980s? These composers are currently making their first international presence and receiving commissions for what will be known in the future as their 'early' (but significant) works.
At the moment I've been enjoying the music of Charlotte Bray (b. 1982). :)
Here's one: Tristan Perich (b. 1982), whose main interest is in primitive technology, what he refers to as "1-bit electronics."
His installation, Microtonal Wall, has 1,500 tiny speakers, each emitting a unique tone.

So cool! Thanks Brewski! Not much happening in this thread yet though. :-\
I like a lot of composers born in the '80s... I'll make you a list of 10 or 15 or so really good ones if you gimme a few to chill after work ;)
I like Charlotte Bray more than Helen Grime but I'm not sure if either would make the cut. We'd have to see.
I think I'll mention one: Dobrinka Tabakova (born 1980). She's a Bulgarian-born British composer who is definitely in the Pärt/Silvestrov/Vasks type of sound-world. There's a recording on the ECM label of her music titled String Paths that's worth checking out. Really beautiful sound-world her music inhabits.
Another composer worth checking out, who just barely makes the age requirement, is Missy Mazzoli (b. 1980).
On Thursday, Opera Philadelphia will give the world premiere of her opera, Breaking the Waves, based on the Lars von Trier film.

Adam Schoenberg (b. 1980) is always destined to be the composing world's second-most-famous A. Schoenberg, but that hasn't stopped him from putting together some cool stuff. A full disc of his orchestral music will be released soon on Reference, which already included some of his piano pieces on a recital by Nadia Shpachenko.

Hey nathanb I'm still waiting on your list! ;)
Meanwhile I think Mark Simpson is deserving a mention

I like Anna Clyne (b. 1980) (http://www.annaclyne.com/ (http://www.annaclyne.com/)) and I thought her work, Night Ferry, was quite good. Sort of reminds me of a modern Sibelius's "Nightride and Sunrise".

That work
Night Ferry personally reminds me of a more amped up version of the storm scene in Sibelius'
The Tempest or at least the beginning minute or so of that excerpt.
