Title: 1960s "girl singers" pop-jazz
Post by: XB-70 Valkyrie on September 23, 2017, 05:58:08 PM
Found a great show on KSPC (Claremont, California  http://kspc.org (http://kspc.org)  ) called "Le Show", showcasing this genre and other interesting French pop music.

Looking on Amazon, I found lots of this stuff to try out. Any fans of this era/style? Recommendations?

If you can deal with retro, check out Nina Zilli ... I've got two of her albums and like them quite some.

Also, back to sixties:

As for French, these are on my shelves (for some that don't fit the "jazz" part at all, I have much more ... Françoise Hardy for one):

Also there's Juliette Greco, there's Mina ... and then there's this outstanding rekkid (Cole Porter sung in German - and jazzy indeed):

Good calls, both ... for Warwick, this twofer comes most highly recommended, for one:

As for Gilberto - the spelling is Astrud - I find her charming, but her albums quite frustrating in that none of them really lives up. Her singing can be heard to great effect with Stan Getz though, most notably on these two:

Yes, I am a big Dionne Warwick fan, and remember her songs when they were new (ish) and being played on the radio in the 70s and 80s. I have one compliation CD of her best hits, and that's pretty much enough for me. Astrud Gilberto is another one I like a great deal, but have only heard a song here and there on the radio. Will look into these recommendations.

This one has the greatest cover (don't remember anything about the music though) - and yeah, no resizing for a change, sorry, it needs to be large:
