Title: Political chaos in the UK
Post by: vandermolen on April 30, 2018, 01:32:42 AM
Any views on the current political mayhem in the UK following the resignation of Amber Rudd, the Windrush scandal and Brexit shambles? I realise that there's an overlap with the Brexit thread so do post there if you'd like to contribute.

I usually look at the BBC news web site for a non-US perspective on the news, and Amber Rudd is not mentioned in the primary headlines there. Not high profile, from were I sit. What did she do, have a low-fat biscuit at tea time? :)

When it comes to politics every country has its own dynamics where important and futile local issues as well as personality clashes come into play, much to the bemusement of external obervers. Very often locals are obsessed with stuff that leave the rest of the world scratching its collective head  ;)

Not sure about "chaos" but that is the Sun for you.
Rudd was the Home Secretary, the remit includes immigration. She publicy stated there were no targets set for deportation. When it was shown there were targets, she said she didn't know about them. Finally it was discovered she had written to the Prime Minister about these targets. You know, those targets that don't exist or that she didn't know about.

She had been touted as a future tory leader, likely to be sooner rather than later when May is given the chop. The "hostile environment" policy that lies behind this was initiated by May when she was Home Secretary; so Rudd is the fall guy for May.

For "Windrush" and more details, see this timeline from the Guardian, whose investigative journalism has unearthed all this sewer of mistreatment and lies.

So... views? Who would think this is honourable or compassionate behaviour? Most tories are vile scum and Rudd and May are prime examples. There's a view for you.  ::)

Nice to see Labour's self-styled "moderates", who waste no opportunity to spew bilious rants at Corbyn, telling us that we shouldn't be too mean to poor Amber. Slagging off their own leader is just fine, but when it comes to a Tory cabinet minister forced to resign in disgrace it's a case of hold hands around the campfire for a rousing chorus of Kumbaya.
