Title: Hello
Post by: Sydney Nova Scotia on September 09, 2018, 07:48:00 PM
I come from a visual art background, so Cage is relatively easy for me to accept. Art is art.

I've rarely been called "academic." As far as music, I can recall no "hippie" treatise on music theory. It all sounds like off-the-wall chatter to me.

Symmetry in music is not as complicated as physics, and the comparison is kind of ridiculous. Neo-Riemannian theory is a musical application, but it was just named after Riemann.

Oh Ps and I hate Led Zeppelin

Welcome to GMG!
Regarding Riemann, you may be confusing the musicologist Hugo Riemann and the mathematician Bernhard Riemann. Neo-Riemannian theory has nothing to do with zeta functions etc.

Hello Sydney, what music are you interested in? I haven't heard much Cage but Cartridge Music is rather impressive 8).

Nice

but I always recommend Celtic music because even though it evolved out of the folk music traditions of the Celtic people of Western Europe it has continued to evolve into a genre which extends from traditional and on through rock and punk and metal and contemporary instrumental and every variation that you could possibly imagine...

Welcome, Sydney! Visual arts background here, too, as well as admiration for Cage (among many others).

Enjoy all the lively expertise here.
