Dutch composer Theo Verbey passed away at the age of 60.
Some people may remember him for his orchestration of Alban Berg's piano sonata.

RIP
P.
This is terrible news. Do you know what the cause of death was? He was still a young man. RIP, Mr. Verbey.
I have that Berg transcription. And his clarinet concerto. Any suggestions for further acquaintance?
Mr. Verbey's publishers, Deuss, only tell that after a brief illness, he died unexpectedly:
"Tot ons groot verdriet moeten wij u mededelen dat Theo Verbey op 13 oktober jongstleden is overleden. Theo was al een tijdje ziek maar zijn overlijden komt als een onverwachte schok. De begrafenis heeft afgelopen vrijdag in besloten kring plaatsgevonden. "
I remembered his name through the (Decca?) disc Mahler + Berg performed by the Koncertgebouw Orchestra / Chailly.
I've been listening to some of his music this afternoon ( the Fractal symphony and the pianoconcerto) - and definitely like what I hear. He's definitely a master orchestrator. I enjoy his sense of humor & poetry, the way he juggles with history.
Hope to explore further.
