He's written a bassoon concerto for the Dallas Symphony which will receive its premiere the Feb. 13-15 weekend. I have tickets - it's paired with Martinu's Fourth Symphony. I'll likely be writing a preview article for the local paper interviewing Mr. Tate, too.

Apparently one day last fall, a man showed up the Dallas Symphony lobby and asked to talk to a manager. They were perplexed about who he was and he said, "I'm a composer, I wrote a piece for you guys and brought it." It was Jerod Tate, who had driven from his home in Oklahoma because he wanted to deliver the score in person rather than trust the internet. He told them "it's a nice drive!"
