This one's a live stream from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The pianist is Paul Lewis and the orchestra is conducted by Osmo Vänskä. It starts with Henry Dorn's
Transitions, followed by the Beethoven concerto and concludes with a performance of SIBELIUS'
Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43. Nice Saturday evening treat. Let's hope so (and that it stays for a while afterward), anyway!
I've also been watching live. I found it to be an excellent performance of the Beethoven, and I'm looking forward to the Sibelius.

Lewis didn't keep me intrigued though I admired the orchestral playing. Looking forward to the Sibelius as well, though! Thanks for the link. :)
I wasn't as impressed by the Sibelius, unfortunately. It seemed that the orchestra wasn't following Vänskä's tempo changes as well as he might have liked.

I found it to be an incredible performance, the highlight of the evening by far. Think the audience felt so too - the standing ovation sort of confirmed it. Also, the first violin seemed riveted to Vänskä, in a way that showed she was a bit in awe, frankly. Too bad it was immediately pulled. Perhaps your link will provide a bookmark for future viewings of it. Thanks again!

Despite what I said I tuned in for a bit... Lewis was just phoning it in. For me the neat thing about going to a concert is when you have someone talented but not well known performing. They usually put everything in, they really go for it.
I did like the orchestral playing like you did. But I've always liked Vanska's Beethoven. I don't know what others think, but I think it is actually one of the best modern cycles.
