Is there a recording? Sounds very intriguing indeed.
IIRC this was only recently brought back to light, and its premiere was not long ago (in Toronto?)
Must be a charming piece, I should think.
Unearthed 2002 and premiered 2004. It got good reviews too (but it's an earlyish piece - 1923 so it won't be on a level with his later masterpieces like the Four Temperaments, or the Symphony or the Concert Music for Brass and Strings or the late cello concerto).
I don't know if there's a recording yet, but I did hear it live last year, with Leon Fleisher. Here's the review (http://www.musicweb-international.com/SandH/2006/Jul-Dec06/maazel0212.htm) I did for MusicWeb.
It would be great if Fleisher would record it.

I love Hindemith but seldom think of his music as charming.

Surely you'd consider his
Symphonic Metamorphoses on a Theme of Carl Maria von Weber charming, no?

Yes. That's why I wrote seldom instead of never.
