Title: Otto Klemp's big bad-*** Beethoven 9th. Testament 1957 or 1961?
Post by: MISHUGINA on November 09, 2007, 07:22:04 PM
There is this live 1957 of Beethoven 9th recorded just after the recording sessions for the studio EMI recording on Testament, boasting Hans Hotter and Christa Ludwig as soloists. Another 1961 BBC archive release also on Testament has Walter Barry replacing Hans Hotter's baritone part. Anyone heard both versions?

Alas, no. I've only heard the 1957 live recording: though I can definitely (and eminently) recommend it! 8)

Although haven't heard it, the '61 (by general consensus) is inferior to the earlier recording. ;)
