Title: Elgar Starlight express
Post by: Sean on November 14, 2007, 09:14:29 AM
This gets a rare outing on BBC radio tonight, a major Elgar work of incidental music I haven't encountered before and will be recording: any enthusiasts for this one?

Okay.

Was Elgar really a miniturist? A bit like Wagner could be...?

Elgar was versatile. He has light small scale works, huge oratorios and everything between.

But did he offer us Roller Babes?!

Or maybe Bowler Babes, since he was British!   8)

I'm listening to the broadcast right now, God help us, Radio 3 sure doesn't exist any more. Who talks like this? What a pile of garbage- what moated public school bunch of wonders are they? This country and its stupid identity is stuck in the 1930s or with some vapid idea of upper class pomposity that probably never even existed. I'm doing my best to edit out their inanities but I might have to turn it off soon.

Sean,

Might we suggest that, overall, your skills as an editor are somewhat questionable ...........

I do know what he means - some of the presenters are absolute idiots. I wonder if you listen to BBC Radio 3 much Dm? Again though, why resurrect this 2 month old thread?

In the scheme of things, is 2 months really such a long time?

why resurrect this ... old thread?

As a general matter, isn't it possible that certain threads become more valuable as they age?  Isn't it possible that, as we accumulate knowledge and experience over time, threads like this can be viewed from different lenses -- or from fresh perspectives, or from previously untapped vantage points -- and, accordingly, will be subject to different interpretations ........ and allow for altogether different insights and different frameworks of analysis?

Just saying .........

Yes it is possible. But the fact that your comment was
QuoteWe're not exactly sure what you're talking about, Sean .........
after 2 months of thinking about it, surely belies what you just wrote in the post above. I would venture a guess that the only point in you resurrecting this thread was to goad Sean some more which seems utterly pointless to me. The same is true of the constant jibes at 71dB, which are so frequent and tiresome that it is extremely difficult to take anything that you post seriously. I would also hazard a guess that you would not act like this in real life, so why act like it on the internet?

How can someone who claims to love Brahms so deeply be so childish and unimaginative? I'm not going to argue about this because it is likely that I am flogging a dead horse, but it is exceedingliy difficult for me not to get exasperated by it.
