This is a "live" studio recording of the song, with the last take that made the cut.  I read in Wikipedia, that Noel was playing electric guitar with bass frequencies turned up, so it wold sound like a bass.  I was always wondering what the heck this was.  Maybe tenor guitar?  Sounds like there is BASS!  Just listen, when Jimi is soloing, there're still chords being played in the background--no, its not multi-tracking, and no there's only 3 musicians.

somebody, help me out :)

Sorry, I can't help. But - have you heard Red House Live at San Diego Sports Arena, May 25, 1969?

It's epic!  :o :o :o

(you can get it on Jimi in the West or The 4 CD box "The Jimi Hendrix Experience")

That has to be a real bass. If you need an answer you might like to pose the question on the Steve Hoffman forum - someone there will be sure to know.
