Season's Greetings from this musicaholic in Chicago...I primarily lurked in an earlier incarnation of this forum, I'm sure no one remembers me :P
I've appreciated classical music since I was a wee child as a result of taking piano lessons. I never got into owning recordings until recent years because previously I always had people to mooch CDs/records off of (many of which probably weren't the greatest recordings, but better than nothing, right?).
I'm currently listening to early polyphonic music. I'm sort of exploring classical music in a semi-chronological fashion, and while doing this I have found that I REALLY like a lot of pre-Baroque stuff so I'm a little stuck there right now :D I'm a fan of J. S. Bach, Chopin, Perotin, & Haydn. I like very many other composers but haven't listened to as much of them yet, except Mozart, who for the most part I don't really enjoy, & Beethoven, who I'm undecided about. Currently exploring Handel, and I'm liking what I've heard so far. I'm liking about half of what little Vivaldi I've heard.
I would like more baroque recommendations because there seem to be few composers who get mentioned in other sources I've come across... Anyway, I consider myself a newbie so I am looking forward to learning & losing money buying GMG forum recommendations :)
Parpar - Season's Greetings to you & welcome to the GMG Forum - as you likely already know from past experience, there are plenty of interesting threads & posts here that will peak your interest!
There are a number of ongoing Baroque threads: German Baroque (http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,2044.0.html) & French Baroque (http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,1729.0.html) just to mention a few; others on Bach, Handel, Italians, etc. :)
Hi, I hope you hunker down and enjoy yourself here. Lots of guys into Baroque music; so you should find it a comfy place.
