Title: Help with Taskbar Please
Post by: Mozart on January 11, 2008, 09:36:19 PM
I changed my computer to the windows xp desktop theme style from the classic so I could make the font sizes bigger. But now my taskbar for some reason switches back and forth between my folders that are open and other things and its really frustrating. If I have 2 webpages open and minimize one they both disappear and only my folders are left. How do I get rid of that? Probably a silly question but i cant find the setting.

See those little ^ and down arrows? Thats how I have to navigate between my different applications that are open.

I just realized it's because I have to many things open, but in the windows classic style it would just fit them all there by making each one smaller. Is there a way to do this? I like the bigger fonts because I sit far from the monitor but its to annoying to put up with.

You may choose to have windows group the similar buttons by checking the box in taskbar properties. This may help tidy it up a bit.

:( is that the only option? I hate that! I like to see each window separately. And Harry's eyesight thread made me think about using the bigger font and I love it! I don't want to have to choose! I can use a smaller resolution to fit more things but it kind of ruins the purpose of using bigger font.

You can drag the taskbar up, making it bigger (two rows), or move it so it's on one side of the screen, rather than at the bottom.

Or, just close some of those too many things you have open.

I have chosen Wendell's first option. For the last 5 years (even with Win 2000) I always have my taskbar 2 rows high. It takes a little geting used to it at first, but after a while it seems like the only way to go. Just "grab" the top edge and pull it up a little bit. You can go 3 rows if you want. Also recommend to "lock" it after. :)

What I don't understand in ELIAS' picture is that, there seems to be a lot of available space to the right of the taskbar. Why aren't more open programs showing there ? ::)

Well I'm going with the double sized option, but I still don't love it :( The place where it shows the time and things also doubled, but at least I can fit 2 more windows in.

It split it up, I think I had 7 windows open at the time and it split it up into 4 and 3...Didn't make sense to me either.

Buy a bigger screen and go back to the classic version!

It's not the screen size, its the distance from the screen. I need a desk because I basically am using a small couch and a table. I can move the couch closer certainly, but its comfortable as it is, I can put my feet and and sit back. I wish 2 years ago I would have bought a laptop though, I don't really like using the laptop keyboard, but you can always get a wireless one :D
