Nice to hear from you. I hope you find an interesting and fun home with us. Would you like to say anything about the music that you are enjoying at present?

Welcome Menmarch. :)
Where does the name come from?
This is the place to learn, but be aware of the fact that it is also the place that incites you to spend more money on cd's as you planned. ;D

Hello, menmarch, and welcome to GMG.  As Que suggested, there are lots of resources here for people new to classical music, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions.  Enjoy...you have much pleasure ahead of you.

Hi menmarch and welcome the wonderful world of Classical music.

There is so much out there I am sure you will find a ton of Classical music you like.  If you have a decent sound card in your computer you can listen to streaming audio at many music sites to get a taste of what each composer's music is like.

Also a lot of labels offer Classical samplers, the 10 "Telarc Collection" samplers are a good place to start as they are dirt cheap and the sound is excellent.
