Title: Hark, What Light Thru Yonder Window Breaks, It Is...
Post by: Dancing Divertimentian on June 05, 2008, 09:13:23 PM
...the blasted rotten weather!!

I've noted on other threads the irregular and problematic weather patterns dogging folks all over the world. Stuff that's out of the ordinary.

Well, here in north Texas it's the suffocating, incessant WIND that's wreaking havoc, not just on property but on folks' disposition.

Yes, stiff wind we're used to in Texas in the spring but typically it's not so fast and furious - gusts to 50mph - and normally it subsides after a day or two and/or drops off at nightfall - if only to come back again for another spell. But this time it's incessant. Day and night, days on end, blowing out power, fueling fires, blowing rather large pieces of debris all over the place so that the roads seem like one giant obstacle course, etc...

It's enough to make you feel as if you're trapped in one of those plastic snow globe thingies that you shake and watch the snow swirl all over people, or a house, or whatever. Only in this case it's the entire environment that's totally out of control. Everything is swirling in double-time and it seems there's nowhere to go to get any relief. Can't relax...spiraling eyeballs...

At least that's the effect this blasted wind is having on both me and my mother-in-law! ;D And I'm pretty unshakable (no pun, but I'll take it!).

So, anything crazy happening weather-wise in your neck of the woods that's got you steaming? ;D

Hey, down here in the TX Hill Country we've had pretty odd winds for about 24 hours, too...

That's right, you're from, um, Houston, is it?

We up Dallas way seem to be locked into some bizarre wind pattern that won't let up.

Wonder how Gurn, Dirk, and other GMG Texans are getting on...

For some reason the south of the UK has been alternating between baking heat and pelting rain for the past two months. There has been very little middle ground, so we've had days when it's been substantially hotter than Spain's temperatures at the same time, and other days when a months worth of rainfall has fallen in 24 hours. The BBC has very dryly (no pun intended) described it as:

"Mean temperatures well above average. Notable rainfall variations, with well below average rainfall across the north and well above average across the south." (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/year_review/)

So, it's the weather to blame. I was wondering what it was that was making several of our posters so especially splenetic. It was nothing to do with their upbringing, drinking habits or combative nature; it is excess wind.

Its usually hotter here for late spring...but we've had cloudy skies the entire year almost in baja ca. Its still pretty cool...i hope it stays this way. Very few clear days... And we have had 3 heatwaves in the spring, where the temp got near or over 100f...setting record highs..If it happens again, im ready to ride a dolphin to antartica...

This is the region of Tienen (Boutersem -Belgian Brabant, near Leuven). It is very rural ( sugarbeet) and hilly - the rain loosens the "fat", clay-like soil and produces mudslides = lots of trouble. !
The heavy storms of last Tuesday were local but large parts of the country were hit : Ghent, Sint Niklaas, Limburg....then they thundered over germany.

We're going to get a week of storms and hail.  ::)

I'm sure the whole summer will be the same.  :'(

Strong wind = bad hair day = gotta lash out.

Best to cut back on the dried fruits and lentils.

Really bad here in the woods, trees down everywhere. Yesterday was horrendous. On my afternoon break I like to go out and stand under the oaks, but I noted 2 huge branches laying on the ground and ,,, chickened out, actually. ::)  Better now though, calm winds for the first time all week. :)

Hey, if you were cooped up in a little office all day, without even a window, you certainly wouldn't be saying ???  :)  And, of course in our PC environment, we can't smoke our little cigar indoors either, no matter how high quality it is... ;)

Good to hear things have settled down, Gurn. I know the trees appreciate it. :-\

We've had a bit of a let up here, too. Finally.

Sounds like something I wish I could do on my break. But I'm sandwiched between a parking lot and an alley. Neither exactly call to me...

And I thought I was badly off! :o

Nice little grove of oaks, the shade is a blessing when it's 96°... :)

My little storefront is comprised of about a half-dozen panes of glass - so at least I can see out (think strip center). But with only a parking lot to gaze upon I'm not sure I'm coming out ahead! ;D

Wonder what my landlord would think of a grove of oaks idea to replace the parking lot...
