This day,May 8th, 1829, was borne Louis Moreau
Gottschalk, one of the first known american pianist
and composer. He left many brilliant and difficult
pieces for the piano, very well written and almost
lisztian in the use of the piano possibilities. Very
few play it in public and there are not many recordings.
IMO,the best was by the great Ivan Davis, and his
is already a classic and one of the finest piano
recordings available.
He was a fine composer, and I will play some of his works today. :)
Piano works, of course.
How about that Bamboula, Harry!?
When reading about various American composers this was a name unknown to me. Usually the composer threads offer a few recommendations, but in this instance a lack of suggestions meant I just bought this CD.

I thought it was about my neighbor's dog!
I thought the thread was about French Kings.

That's what the Clovis thread is for.

Hmmm... it seems to be more difficult than I thought to obtain Davis' Souvenir de Porto Rico at a decent price.
