We do need some photographs in the Diner, don't we?
More?

Thanks for sharing, uffe. So beautiful! 8)
The names are the actual names of the varieties, right?

Thank you, my friend! As you can see, it worked! :-*
Yes, they are the actual names; thank you all for the compliments, so here the last two. The Konrad Adenauer is my favourite of the sixty some I have in my garden:
Your roses are gorgeous!
Have you ever seen the Beverly Sills rose? It is a beautiful pink.
There is also a Rose Society in the US. Maybe you already know that. It evaluates the various qualities of a rose: susceptibility to mold, black spot, and other diseases; hardiness; growing zones in the US; shape of flower; growth habit.
I took the current Ortho Rose book (it had excellent pictures) and wrote the number the Rose Society gave it in the Ortho rose book. Then I took the Ortho rose book with me shopping. I bought only roses with a rating of 10, 9,or 8 and had very good luck with them. Then we moved and I never got back into it again.
Again, yours are so pretty. That Beverly Sills rose is worth tracking down. Maybe Jacksen Perkins? They are located in a state on the Pacific coast in the northwest.
Oh Dear Ann! Why are we always on the wrong side of the fence? :'(
I am not a fan of pink roses, which puts the Sills on that other side of the fence. Jacksen Perkins hold the monopoly on roses and take vile advantage if it, shoving many smaller - and better - growers out of business. They are the WalMart of the rose business. Their practice is to push a new variety to the limits, sell them by the millions, but if you would try to get three years later one of their hot sellers, you are out of luck! I have been boycotting Jacksen Perkins the same way I have been boycotting WalMart!
Keep on trying, Ann, we'll get together on a subject sooner or later! :-*
Your 1st picture (Beauties) looks a lot like Beverly Sills. That's why I mentioned it.
My wife loves pink roses. She prefers them to red.
Of course, she likes anything pink. ::)
Do you have any yellow varieties to show us, uffe?
Ann: The ones in my first picture are a bunch of Perfections and they are an intense orangy-pink, emphasis on the orange.
mn Dave: The only real pinks I have are the Queen Elizabeth, a very light pink.
Wanderer: No real yellows. Coming closest to yellow is my Copper Masterpiece, but it just finished blooming, forgot to take a picture and now you'll have to wait for it's second blush!
Hi Lis - beautiful roses & images - thanks for posting them! ;D
Dave: Wine and roses; can not think of better things to enjoy and nurture! 0:)
Lis, those are gorgeous!! :o I am a huge rose fan. They are a lot of work to grow, aren't they? How long have you had your lovely garden?
We tried to grow some when I was little and my favorite one is called the Sterling Silver rose, it's a very pale lavender and has such a beautiful smell.
You'll have to post more pictures sometime!

I love this picture Lis. Thanks for posting it :)! That rose with that opera book.........the effect is beyond description..........timeless!

Greta: This rose garden is over twenty years old; inherited I the genes from my mother. 0:)
Yes, I did have the Sterling Silver and recall it's intense fragrance. A heavy frost got it and I never got around to replacing it. Work is not so bad any more now that I found a very reliable gardener who does all the grunt work, like pruning every spring, but I do the easy tasks; go out every morning and cut off the wilted roses, take photos of the beauties and brag about it all in The Diner at GMG!
I still have time left to listen to good music and watch opera DVDs! :D
So are the names of the roses chosen names or are they the official names of special types of roses?

Rose varieties are patented, so they have to be given a name at patent registration. The developer does that. You could consider it as a breed of dog: if you are buying a Scottie sight unseen, you will have a very good idea what you will be getting. :)

They are the official names chosen by the developer of the original type The
Konrad Adenauer was created by a rose grower in honour of Adenauer, also a lover and a grower of roses.
Puzzling though since I wouldn't associate Adenauer with roses. I would associate him with a dried date $:)

Had to refresh my memory;
Michael, you got something there; but he loved his rose garden to relax from his job as German Chancellor.
I offered one of you a picture of my only 'yellow' rose; was it you, Dave? Here it is, just for you:
Beautiful!
