I am seriously thinking of buying this boxset. But i can not find any information on it. How is the selection of songs featured? how is the sound quality of the performances? In addition I can not find any information on who the performers are?? Can someone who owns this set please help me??

65 Euros for 50 CDs on a great label with some of the world's best musicains.

BUY!
You can find the performers here (http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=168365). For what it's worth the symphonies are performed by Menuhin and the so-called Menuhin Festival Orchestra which doesn't really make you drool with anticipation considering they have Muti/Vienna that that they could have put in there.
Yeah but at little over 1 Euro per CD, if you want a big unnecessary box then you'd be something of a dope not to buy it

You said it ;D
Anyway if they throw Muti in there I'll buy it. Nothing will make me take Menuhin the conductor.

Here, I've found it on the EMI site:
http://www.emimusic.de/produkt/0094638585329 (http://www.emimusic.de/produkt/0094638585329)
Presumably, there must be some way of getting to the specific contents for the 50 discs. It's just a matter of figuring out how.
I believe the link I posted shows the contents, just not who is performing
Marvin,
I don't know about the rest of the boxset, but the symphony cycle with Menuhin is one of the first classical CDs i bought a couple of years ago, and it is the most boooooooring set I have bought to date :-X I only found the Rosamunde to be of interest... (I bought the Hanover band/Roy Goodman cycle on Brilliant just recently to replace Menuhin's and that is way better already...then again, YMMV ;) )

Right, sorry. Who is playing what is what I would like to find out! :-\
Did you even read this thread? Try PW's post.
Oops, you're right. :-[ I did read PW's post - just didn't realize there was anything down there, beneath the part where they just list all the perfomers in a row (which isn't very helpful in a 50 CD set).

as some of the muppets on a bb I contribute to say: it's a no-brainer. It really is too good of a deal to pass up IMO. You can get an additional sym set if you need it. (they're not the best part of Schubert anyway).

Mixed or not mixed you are talking a buck a cd. Even if only a third of cds turn out to be really good you've got a deal already. I was just pointing out the symphonies but if you scroll down towards the end (in the link I gave) you'll see that some of the songs feature Barbara Hendricks accompanied by the great Schubert pianist Radu Lupu. Or Lucia Popp and Irwin Gage. Now I haven't heard them myself but it looks mighty interesting don't you think? In fact OTHER than the symphonies the box looks like a real winner.
Of course, you should buy the Beethoven (and maybe even the Mozart) box first. :D

It shall be in my collection shortly ;D!
Edit: I found it for £30!! Now £30 for 50 CDs and I already have a good Schubert Symphony Cycle (Wand). This boxset really is too good to pass up!!

For the price, I guess it would be a good enough introduction to Schubert. It has to be mentioned, though, that EMI could assemble a better bag of goodies considering the treasures hidden in its vaults.
but then it would cost more, perhaps considerably more, and they would also do themselves a disservice buy including 'treasures' in an 'introduction' box-set. No, I maintain my stance of BUY(!) as the waste time/low price ratio is unbeatable.
