Title: Bulldog is here
Post by: Bulldog on September 16, 2008, 10:56:56 AM
Hi.  Bulldog's the name, and polite and helpful conversation is my game.

My previous username was Don, and I deleted my account for a couple of reasons.  One was that I was very upset with myself for, once again, taking the low-road and engaging in useless and prolonged arguments.  The other was that my blood pressure shot up to an all-time high of 196 (top-number).  With much apprehension, I went to my doctor yesterday and she gave me new medication.  As of this morning, my b.p. went all the way down to 135.  I now feel refreshed and like a new man.  My #1 goal is to keep the number down.
From today's surfing of a few topics, I noticed that there was some talk about those who delete their accounts feeling like victims.  That does somewhat apply to me in that I was a victim of myself.

As some of you already know, Bach is the center of my musical world.  Other composers I treasure include Shostakovich, Scriabin and Schumann.  The well-known composer I have the least affinity with is Vivaldi.  When it comes to social values I am very liberal, but my tendency is to be conservative about economic policy and international affairs.

I am 60 years old and have been married to my wife Ellen Jane since 1969; we have three adult children and one grandson.  My educational expertise was economics and my profession was real estate (especially real estate appraisal).  At the time of my retirement, I headed the Real Estate Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Albuquerque District with responsiblity for the acquistion and management of recruiting facilites, Army Reserve/National Guard properties, lakes/dams, land in Kuwait and Iraq, and the San Diego Border Fence project.  Can't say I miss any of it.  I am one of the many record reviewers for MusicWeb International, although it's been a few months since my last review.  Glad to be back on the forum!

Let's start with a list of three recordings of Bach Cantatas that you enjoy (maybe not your top, but still enjoy) that you are pretty sure that most of us do not have....and welcome back.  Plus, as you know, I am a sucker for canine avatars.  Here's our newest addition:

Add her to our three bassets and you gotta handful!

A heartfelt welcome back to you, Don. Glad to hear that you BP is back to a healthy range. I hope you will be able to keep yourself from getting too involved in those topics that may raise your BP again. Take care.  8)

Assuming excellent performances, I feel like I'm in Heaven whether on harpsichord or piano.  But if I had to choose just one, it would be the harpsichord.

I just have the usual suspects - Koopman, Suzuki, Herreweghe, Leonhardt, Gardiner, etc.  What I don't currently have are any of the discs in the Kuijken/Accent series.  Concerning modern instrument recordings, I have a few of the discs in the Rilling/Hanssler cycle and two from Muller-Bruhl on Naxos; I prefer the Naxos.

My feelings, exactly. I also empathize with your reasons. Not always easy to exercise social skills when the ol' body refuses to go along  :-\.
