Naw, just a momentary contusion. That A&K looks good. I didn't know they made one that inexpensive.

So I don't have to fire up my big amp when I want to listen with headphones or simply don't want to use as much electricity on these super hot days, I ordered a Schitt Audio Lyr headphone amp, and it arrived today. Oh boy, does it ever sound sweet with that tube! (It can also run in a pure Mosfet solid state mode.) It's a great piece of Schitt.

A&K are excellent. I got lucky with the A&K Jr but any A&K model is going to function well and sound very good. The SR15 is within your price range and has all the features you require. What HiFi gave it 5 stars

Headfonia, a review site I rate very highly were similarly impressed

Note to UK readers I bought my SR35 plus leather case from Richer Sounds who are still selling the pair for £600.

I need a new pair of speakers like a hole in the head, but let's not let that get in the way. A pair of Radford Tristar 50 will arrive hopefully in 40 minutes. The owner seems a bit of an old duffer gentleman sort of chappy, said he bought them himself from Arthur Radford. Where I'm going to put them, what they sound like - no idea. Am I mad?

I've got a Radford 25W valve amp ready and waiting to be hooked up.

I wondered if you kept your Radford amp.

I'm curious as to which ones you bought.  The link brings up a number of speakers and I noticed that Radford made various ones with "50" as part of the model number.

Listening to them play Dvorak now. Truth is, for a Dvorak quartet it's all the speaker any sane person needs.

The previous owner was indeed an elderly gentleman, he came with his wife, they got a tour of the house (which they loved) and we all enjoyed tea in the garden, I told him how to deal with blanket weed in his pond, and gave them some plants as presents. Very Surrey (you won't understand that - but @Irons will!)

They need to be a bit higher - I'll stuff The Complete Works of Aristotle in 2 Volumes under them later.

You know for a pair of ancient speakers they are pretty punchy.

They are my Radford PRATs.

Maybe it should be no surprise given the punchiness of the STA 25. Will hook it up this week hopefully.

I tried to click on your link and the listing only came up briefly.  From what I recall, one used to be able to look at completed listings longer?  Can't find any other information on the speakers.  In any event, I hope that you enjoy them!  So, which room will you be keeping them in?

And I suspect that I got the gist of what you meant by "Very Surrey".  Glad that you all had a very nice visit.  :)

Are you going to swap editions of different schools of thought depending on what music you're listening to at the moment?

I just got a pair of these (second hand JBL 305P mark II) as desk top monitors. As an experiment, I guess. I've never ownend monitors before. Now that I have them (in my office), it seems like a mistake They're too big for an office, and don't really work at low volume. I may bring them home and take my Edifiers to my office.

I bought these Edifier R1280t speakers second hand for about $50 US. They are cute and surprisingly good.
It's all good...

Helped my father purchase a set of the beautiful Sonus faber Concertino Domus with their dedicated stands the other day, so now our guest room has a makeshift stereo with a Squeezebox Radio as source and a Rotel RA-930AX as amplifier. The Rotel has it's best days behind it though.

Those garden hose sized speaker cables are Monster Powerline 2 from my Cardboard Box of Shame.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Those are fine speakers. sonus Faber is one of my favourite brands. I had different types throughout my life, and they never disappointed.

Indeed. These tiny things are contemporaries of the 1st generation Cremonas and Cremona Auditors. Not as refined of course, but they share the tonal characteristics Franco Serblin was pursuing at the time. In my opinion he got things wrong later, e.g. the tonality of the Accordo.

Question for you:  how do you now use the guest room as a guest room (as in for sleeping)?  ???

And yes, I too love Sonus Faber.  :)

It seems like the stereo is set up for someone to roll over and knock the speakers down!
