Well, with some additions (most notably a kind of point of imitation freely adapted from Crazy in a Bottle) Dark Side of the Sun has stretched to a minute and a quarter.

Oh what wonderful ideas, especially in the instrumentation!  The contrabass is known to "blur" the lower notes of the flute and its family, so (e.g. bars 30 ff.) that will give certain sections a "dark" sound indeed!

Most of the pieces I write for the Fifteen Minutes of Fame calls remain un-famous. Yet I often produce material that I like a ton and whereof I therefore resent the Universe's indifference. Hence, I re-purposed sand dance (originally written in May of 2017 for flute and harp) as the coda of one of my pieces for Ensemble AubadeBicycling Into the Sun
(Feel the burn), Op. 163. So, in September of 2023 I wrote a saxophone quartet, Thinking of Rahsaan. This was apparently one of those instances when I heard bupkis from the musicians asking for the pieces. but again: too good a piece to let it get swallowed up in the Void. I will cannibalize it for Dark Side.

I've planned (loosely) for Dark Side of the Sun to run eight minutes. It's now at six minutes, and while there may be tweaks to what is presently in the score, I think eight minutes remains sound.

I took my customary serious post-PT nap. My brain somewhat re-charged, it seemed to want to chip away at Dark Side, so I did. Overall, the work was good. I'm about at the end, and need to let it sit overnight before I genuinely finish it up.

I appeared to reach the end yesterday, but I suffered some doubts: is this really an ending, the ending? It needed less "repair' this morning than I had feared. The composition is pretty much done, I think. Let me check dynamics and see to any other tweaks before I post the score.

The President of Triad (which has been inactive since our latest concert) sent this yesterday to the Board: I think it's time to dissolve Triad. Before we go ahead and do that, I'd like to hear if anyone thinks differently.

Otherwise, we'll try to find a lawyer who can help us do this legally and properly.

I replied: It pains me to say so, but I don't see viability in the group at this point.

I was always hoping that your group would gain enough members to perform my cantata Exaudi me !

Another Call I have had in view is the Civic Orchestra of Chicago Call for Scores. Originally, I contemplated a fresh chamber orchestra piece, but the call is actually focused on their "Civic Fellows," and chamber music-oriented. So, although I joked in this blog post about adapting Dark Side for this call, in very fact this is apt. Swap clarinet for the Alto Flute and bassoon for the Bass Clarinet, and voilà!
