They have the handwritten MS. of a short piece for orchestra, and they want an engraved copy, id est, copy which is publisher-ready. Not in this case to publish it, per se, but so they have neat, legible score and parts for the conductor and orchestra.

Quote from: Karl Henning on February 13, 2025, 06:25:08 AMNot an all-out crisis, but one member of the band (much though he has tried) is unable to adjust his teaching schedule, and cannot participate in the King's Chapel concert on Tuesday, 8 April. I need to dream up a program for a trio. Not going to happen today, but soon.
Here I've "reduced" Yesterday's Snow to a trio. ( Yesterday's Snow for today?) So far, we've got:

Music for the un-Hip Hop, Op. 178 (two flutes) 6:00
Surfing an Earthquake, Op. 190 (three flutes) 6:00
Yesterday's Snow, Op. 160a (two flutes and bass clarinet) 6:00

Maybe this program is the occasion to redeem the never-played Snootful of Hooch

Good idea!  Let me stagger to my cabinet first!  8)

But if it has never been played, it is high time to address that problem!    8)

Without meaning to seem to disregard your excellent suggestion, I'm going to let the combination of the weatherly inconvenience and my need to rebuild the King's Chapel program drive a decision to stay in and get some work done, this time.

The original is for flute and vibraphone. Mysteriously, I cannot turn up the Sibelius file for the piece (neither the original nor a fl/pf version I feel sure I once prepared for Peter. So, I'm rebuilding the score of the original, and once that is done, I'm thinking of arranging it for three flutes (two C flutes and alto.) If, as I re-acquaint myself with the piece, I find this won't quite work, I'll arrange instead for C flute, alto flute and bass clarinet. That will, after all be the scoring when I address myself to adapting a piece by @Crudblud

I was thinking that if you were to take an Uber to the museum (and back) that you wouldn't be out in the cold for very long; however, you are being "a good boy" and decided to focus on your "homework" instead.  ;)  :)

Good luck with it!  And hope that you find your files!

Thanks! I have a pdf of the original score, so I'm creating a fresh Sibelius file from that (I'm now 81 measures in, roughly a quarter of the piece done.)  Good practice, too, if the engraving job comes through.

I've now made my way to rehearsal mark C (m. 113) this took some discipline because I've really felt like slacking. Now, though, I can knock off with a perfectly clear conscience. Tomorrow is another day.

Now up to rehearsal letter F (m. 175)
There are 232 mm. total, so the end is in sight, allowing for the need to modify/add dynamics here and there. I found a few irregularities in the piece, so maybe, if the original dedicatees did read it, they were puzzled. I wonder if the flute writing may simply have been more demanding than the flutist wished to deal with.

I still need to proof dynamics, but all the notes are in. Definitely done working today. I'll see to the dynamics and perhaps even make a start on the trio version tomorrow. I like the piece, dadgummit!

A fun work!  One can never guess where it might be going: great interplay between the flute and vibraphone!
