I agree. Try streaming this one. It's mid 50s live recording and it's bit cut I believe, but Cerquetti and Christoff sing up a storm.

Bach: Partita For Solo Violin No. 2 In D Minor, BWV 1004

At about the same time I was listening to the A minor sonata from the same set. This work is fast becoming my favourite of the lot.

Great to see you getting into some Mahler, John! Solti's Fifth is the best of his cycle and one of the finest performances of this symphony on record.

Yeah, I like Mahler's music a lot. I'm not a Mahler nut like some of our members are, though. ;) :D

A little Bartok before I head into work:

Listening to Concerto for Two Pianos, Percussion, and Orchestra. Excellent performance with the Labeque sisters.

A Naxos lovers must have (not only this but the whole cycle) :  Third time of listening, and it gets better and better.

Petrenko does it again.  Another superb release from Naxos in the ongoing cycle.  I can't wait for Babi (next up I think).  This is a brutal torturous symphony the first movement clatters the eardrums within the opening minute.  The opening of the fourth always startles me and startles my Daughter even more (She's 14) when she sits there unaware that I have cranked the amp up and am just about to press the start button.  Last night she was sat about 3 feet away from the right speaker when I clicked go on Shosty 4.  She nearly fell off the chair and I was delighted to see the horror in her face as the opening screech made her jump out of her skin.  Those clarinets and slashing strings are "Anton Phibes-ly Done" (grotesque is too kind a word)  8) great for shifting the grumpy teenagers out of the listening room!

This symphony is so loud and powerful its another godsend, and you get a tributed Mahlerian Intermezzo sandwiching the two outer movements.  Great series so far, one of the best cycles to buy and grow with piecemeal.  Hope we get a huge bass for Babi....

Hope you get to hear it soon, I actually heard it as part of the mp3 autorip the day before I received the physical cd.  Handy is that Amazon autorip, straight to Ipod without ripping it myself  ;)

I don't know what this version of Bruckner 6 is like, but I have it waiting at home for me tonight...latest arrival
