Got some some grocery shopping done about an hour ago, and started a load of laundry.

After that came some perusing of the day's major news thus far, poured some Cabernet and landed here.

Next up is the dryer.

My DSD playback in Foobar2000 has been skipping when played natively, while transcoding to high rez PCM on the fly works without issue.  It turned out the fix was hidden deep in the advanced preferences menu. I unchecked a box titled "use event" which controls buffering, and that did it.

Five Rare Earth Stocks To Watch As Shortages Hit Aerospace

The ChiComs are very very bad.

There's no indication whether the defense industry also faces shortages of heavy rare earths that are critical for military hardware such as Lockheed Martin's F-35 fighter jet, Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines, Predator drones and more. However, the U.S. would want to keep defense supply chain vulnerabilities close to the vest.

How have the rains been lately?

Here, dreading emptying a couple of mousetraps (They found their way inside on a rainy day/evening.).  Yuck!

I'm voting my shares. It's tedious and pointless, so I don't have much reason to do it. I get all these mailings asking me to vote for the Board and such, then I put a control number in a box on a website and vote yes for everything. I used to throw all the envelopes away. Now I'm a good citizen.

After all, they insist on giving me money, so throwing a few votes in their direction is a small price.

Typing of money, I did my taxes. I dropped off my docs last week at HRBlock and today I finished up with the tax priestess Joanne. I owed ~$1300 to the state and zero to the feds. That's not bad at all, and it seems I benefited from a change in how seniors are taxed.

The Other One gets refunds, which is perplexing since she's super retired and has no withholding. What's being refunded? Maybe it's SS tax.

I don't know.  Did she pay in maybe quarterly (stocks/investments)? and had losses?  And or things like health care costs?  Or other losses?

It might be a combination of low income and a capital loss. She sold a doggy and bought something else.

Sorry to hear about that.  Trust that he's o.k.?

How is your living situation working out?

My brother is ok for the moment, Thursday was wet but not dicey. Tomorrow may be a problem, with severe weather forecast from Oklahoma up to Wisconsin. All perfectly normal at this time of the year, in that part of the country, but that doesn't make it any better if your house is damaged ( or deleted... ).

I'll be in touch with him throughout the afternoon, once the storms begin.

My own situation is unchanged. I have some very good musician friends who have been assisting me, but you can't rely on your friends completely if you wish to be a good friend in turn. So, I'm going to have to make some tough choices very soon, probably next week in fact.

Be well.  I can only imagine that there's a lot that you are trying to figure out.  Hope that you are/know how to access various health programs, living assistance, etc.  I know nothing about Canada and it's resources, though I suspect that it is better than many states in the US.  Fight and don't give up.

Best wishes,

K
