Some users only "Guest"s - why?

In http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,16691.0.html I see Saul and MN Dave are only "Guest" - why is this?

If someone cancels a GMG membership completely, the posts remain, but the person's status changes to "Guest."  Some people have canceled their memberships, but then register again with the same (or a similar) name.
