Wow!  I think these are three of the ugliest covers around.  Guess there's no accounting for visual taste.

I guess so....  ;D

This non-classical one in da house since beginning of the eighties (Joy Division):

And hopefully this one will arrive in da house in due time (compositions for violin & organ, mid 20th century):

I'd also be more inclined to put those in the ugly pile.  Maybe I'm biased against the Pommier since I've actually heard it.

I kinda like them. The last one is very Rothko-esk, much to my liking. And I've always been a fan of that "swishy" effect in photos, so the Bernstein cover is cool, too.

The first one (Beethoven) is just average, maybe lose the teal and it would be better. :)
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

I love the music and covers of the Ricercar Consort:

This is probably something that would only interest a collector with OCD (like me), but I was wondering if anyone else had a favorite CD label when it comes to art design?

I've got a few, but the first one that comes to mind is CPO:

Great topic!
Not that every London/Decca CD cover art is great, but most of the Blomstedt/SFS discs from Decca have great cover art, specifically the Hindemith discs.

I agree with you that cpo is the best, but I also like Hyperion.  I like the more abstract art found on some but not all of the Naxos.

I also really like the cover art on the Lydian label cds, which was my goto source for bargain cds when I first started listening to classical. :)

That above (Mozart 35/36) is one of my favorite cd covers. :)

Not really a fan of cpo's covers. For me they have a wishy washy look. Hyperion is good, as already said. I quite like ECM's moody modernist covers.

Whenever I see the Dutton logo, it reminds me of the logo for quite a different music label:

One man's "wishy-washy" is another man's "tasteful". ;)

This whole thing is pretty embarrassing.   You know, I actually tried a search on this topic before I posted a new thread (that now got combined into this old one).

Though in all fairness, it isn't 100% the same topic.  My topic was the design look of an entire label, not the individual art or design of a single CD.  But, I can see the responses do have a lot of overlap.

Anyway, what I like is not so much the individual artwork on each of the CPO cases. but the overall design for the entire label.  For me, it's a lot classier looking than the Naxos label, and it's a lot more standard-looking than Hyperion.  As I said, that appeals to me as a collector.  (Even though I'd go broke if I really tried to collect them.)

ECM's my favorite - very relaxing.  Dutton's also a winner with its vivid and colorful art cover.

our O
Well you should know that you should be on the main forum page to use the search, else it will only search in whatever thread or room you're looking at.  On most forums you would have a global search by either forum db or google, along with specific thread and room search engines.  Not this forum! :D

It's alright, just start your own threads.  If it bothers CD mods they can do the work of merging the threads. >:D
