karlhenning

I've got to have both, and so do not want to answer the poll (he answered).

Ah, someone answered for me. :)

Purely on the basis that I think of Shostakovich as the 20th century's most important symphonist (there's a statement sure to cause trouble :D), I've voted accordingly.

Well, I don't agree with the resulting vote, but you have plausibly defended it, and I applaud you :-)

Sergei's nine piano sonatas have not been matched, I think, I think.

BTW, Elgar's music elicits many reactions: "dancing" is not among them ...........

I thank you, sir. :)

Elgar was a dancing man,
Where ever he lay his head was his home...........

Don

I listen to Shostakovich more often (particularly the Op. 87 Preludes and Fugues), so he gets my vote.

I was nearly forgetting that I sent Harry my reggae-death-metal remix of "Land of Soap & Borax"  8)

I listen to Shosty more often, but I would be more likely to take Prokofiev along to a desert island ........ therefore, Prokofiev gets my vote ........

Are there any deserted islands in Zog?

hornteacher

I like both, but I listen to DS more often, so I guess he gets the vote.

Brian

Dislike Prokofiev, love Shosty. Easy choice.

Of course, the REAL answer is Shostakofiev.

Nah ........ Prokovich ........

While I admire Prokofiev a lot (lieutenant Kije suite, Piano concerto's, Alexander Nevsky, Romeo And Juliet, etc) my vote goes to Shostakovich.  I just listen to him more, and I like the music a bit better.  But I like Prokofiev a lot too....
