Which pieces Rubio, the Symphony, or the old style Pieces? :)

Well, I thought about the Symphony, but I listened to them all :). Nice album, anyway.

Strauss : Alpine Symphony op.64 - Suite in b flat op.4

Royal Liverpool PO : Schwarz

A fine Alpine from the RLPO, very powerful brass section and beautiful strings, just as he was slowly turning around the RLPO, contract wasn't renewed and back home to Seattle.......

The Suite in b flat op.4, new to me; a decent early Strauss charmer  ;D

Laci... - well, belongs in the 'non-classical musical thread' but GREAT STUFF!  Wife & I saw Peters in this role on Broadway (she is one of our favorites in this type of music) - we own both the CD set shown & also the DVD pictured below - for those interested, CLICK on the image for comments & reviews -  :D

Beethoven, 9th symphony. Gewandhaus Orchestra, Leipzig cond. by Franz Konwitschny. A near bummer. Some parts are good, but there's too much that is routine, soggy, bar-by-bar trudging to generate any real enthusiasm. Perversely, the performance catches fire in the last 5 minutes with some really bold touches. The pecking soprano (Papagena-sized) comes out with one giant high b in the finale (doesn't the score indicate p or even pp??), and the conductor suddenly becomes involved in the proceedings. Good recording, but brass are too recessed and you'd never think timpani have an important part in this symphony (except in the scherzo, where they are bold and well recorded). A strange and frustrating release.

Serene, gentle and uncomplicated... just the way to end a work week. Especially since after a long day of work I came home to beat back the encroaching jungle that my backyard has become--finally, the rains in Texas have slowed after over nearly of month of consecutive rainy days; all was dry-ish.  ;)

Bruckner Symphony No. 5 performed by Dohnanyi/Cleveland Orchestra. I find this interpretation mighty fine. It has a lot of clarity and I hear details that I have not noticed so much before. The structures are clear, and it is also excellently played. Bruckner 5 is one of my favourite symphonies of them all.
