well, just for completion....

all i know here is modern pieces by Xenakis, Scelsi, Berio, etc.
i think there are two seperate series on the simax label exploring this genre.

anyone got a line on this one?

PaulR

Weinberg:  Sonata for Solo Bass

some guy

And Dumitrescu and Avram and Scodanibbio, and of course all the pieces by other people that the latter plays.

If you want a more historical perspective, I suppose you need to start with Bert Turetzky, who single-handedly made the contrabass a solo instrument to be reckoned with. There've been several since then, including Jean-Pierre Robert, whom I've seen live. Not to be missed!

fernando grillo?

i really wish scodanbibbio would record a definitive recital, maybe a 2-cd set with piano (hindemith, et. al) on one, and solo on the other?

then there are the pieces for wind ens. with bass.

and carlos chavez' string qrt no.2 is for vln, vla, vnc,bs.

which brings me to a pet peeve of mine: jazz bass solos. you will have to forgive me, but.....no, i'm not gonna do it. if you understand, you understand, if not, then not.argh!!!
