Yes, this is one of those absolute classic recordings. I can never understand why EMI never made it part of their GROC series

Indeed. The EMI Richter box is on my buying list almost just for that; and the Beethoven, apart from the Double Concerto, which I have. Twice. :P

Edit - Correction: it is part of the GRotC.

'My bad' to quote someone else. I got confused and should have said that this should also have made it.

Cheers

Novi

Arrived this morning:

Thanks to Brian for recommending the Sudbin :-*. I ordered it a while ago, but coincidentally, heard some Scriabin from Sudbin on the radio a few days ago and was quite impressed. Good call!

Crunch time for me at jpc today! :o ;D

Shopping at jpc is actually a (self-)tormenting experience. All those goodies...  :o :P
I always try to stay on the path of the righteous and stick to what is of immediate interest, but temptations, temptations.... :-[ ;D

Nice haul!  :)

My Karajan Symphony Edition is still in its cellophane.  I will try to start listening to the following set this weekend, which arrived from MDT back in January.  I am trying to stock up on these MDT deals before the USD/GBP exchange starts working against me ...

I have the Tallis' box and will certainly look into the Lindberg's Dowland box.  The Irmgard Seefried's CD looks interesting too.  I love those lieders by Elly Ameling.

Thanks, bud. It's a whole-lotta listening. :)

Tell me about it.  I still have the following sets to listen to for the first time.

Harnoncourt Complete Bach Cantatas   60-CD set
Helmut Walcha Complete Bach Organ Works   13-CD set
Harnoncourt Complete Beethoven Symphonies and other works    14-CD set
Karajan Symphony Edition     38-CD set

Plus a few other smaller sets and another 20 CD's on their way from MDT.  I will need to take a few vacation days to make a real dent in the listening.  Weekend listening alone will not do it ...

Well, just put in an order to MDT, most recommendations made on this forum plus some from Fanfare (order attached) - of course, the BIGGEST purchase is the 21-CD box of Haydn's Baryton Works (mostly trios) (of course, I blame Harry completely for that purchase -  ;) ;D)- looking forward to all!   :)

Looks like MDT could be in some trouble when a buyer strike from the US happens.  I alone have put in some 15 orders since mid January and have probably bought close to 200 CD's.    LOL       ;D

I totally agree, Que. They have so many marvelous discs and "special offers".

My only disappointing experience with them was the last weekend, when the Telemann's Tafelmusik by Musica Antiqua Köln (4 CDs) was on sale for around EU 15. When I tried to purchase the box set on Monday, it had been deleted from my cart and didn't exist on the site  ???.

BTW, Pieter Jan Belder has begun in great form his recordings devoted to Soler. IMO his style is more suitable for Soler than Scarlatti.

Good morn, Stuart - only my second or third order w/ MDT, but the prices are attractive, some of the music (such as the Haydn Baryton box) is just not available in the USA, and the shipping is no worst than the Amazon Marketplace if one puts in a number of items!  Dave  :)

Yes, if you prefer the extrovert, exuberant Scarlatti. But I find this picture of Scarlatti one-eyed.

I found it pretty amusing that in some circle Soler is referred to as the Spanish JS Bach.  But the great JS Bach has no peers ...

On vinyl, three Richters and a Moravec, for about 12 bones:

Nice haul, Bill! I actually got that Wolf on CD very recently. Haven't heard it yet.
