I decided to be the guinea pig and find out what happens if I order this new for $1.36 from "bargainbookstores."

You receive your CD and are a satisfied customer. :) I've done business with this seller and have zero problems with them.

Jeffrey, that Skrowaczewski Shosty 10 is a pretty darn good one.
I got the Skrowaczewski Halle 1/6 recording years ago, as one of my first purchases of DSCH's symphonies.  Not sure about 6, but the 1 is absolutely top notch.

I've been waiting to buy the Halle Elgar series, and this seems to be a good time to do it.  I already have their Gerontius,  plus more Elgar in their English Music box set (I don't remember the official title of the set).  So the only performance missing from this series will the one issued last year, The Apostles.   I'm hoping The Kingdom will be as good as Gerontius--or at least better than the version (by whomever--I'm not in the mood to go into the other room and look) included in that 30 CD EMI box, which is rather turgid and not very good in the sonics department).

I just did my duty too, and also at Presto. These two two-CD sets, both of which comprise 100% music I do not currently possess:

Pounds table, and wonders how long before you order the rest of QM's Haydn.

I see one of these is being sold new on Amazon Marketplace for $0.70 by "bargainbookstores." Not sure I trust that listing. Anybody dealt with CDs from "bargainbookstores" before?
The name rings a bell.  I think I ordered from them once.  If I did, there was no problem with them.  But of course,  the price was not $0.70.

DavidA

Beethoven Symphony 3 Karajan 1977.
Bought it to supplement the 62 set which I have.

DavidA

Beethoven Symphony number three Karajan

I have supplemented my 62 set of Beethoven symphonies with numbers three, six, and nine from 1977.

There is a sequence there but there there is no hidden agenda in it although probably Dan Brown would make one.

Accentus are excellent, but I hope you did not pay too much - those can be found in a 4-disc set relatively inexpensive (along with a good Faure Requiem).

Re: Accentus chamber choir: I think only volume 1 of TRANSCRIPTIONS is included in that REQUIEM(S) box set from Naive, which is five discs rather than four.  (There was also a 2cd edition of both of the TRASNCRIPTIONS albums, but that's yet another product.  Naive, you are cunning.)  I like Accentus as well; their Brahms REQUIEM was my introduction to the reduced 'London Version' of that piece, and I loved it, though I've also never heard anyone else sing it.

I've purchased a couple things from 'bargainbookstores' (Amazon MP) and everything seemed ship-shape.  I got my Monteverdi VESPERS 2cd (Garrido/K617) from them ridiculously cheap.

It also seems that Naive might be reissuing the Quatuor Mosaiques Haydn and maybe Mozart in some form, maybe this year.  I saw this somewhere recently, and the person who spread the word said this information was from Naive HQ itself in response to an inquiry.   I'm sorry I have forgotten where I saw this; quite frustrating as it was only perhaps a week ago.

I was thinking of this box (includes transcriptions 1&2, Faure Requiem and Nuit sacree):

But then there is this box (which has Transcriptions 1; Faure, Brahms, and Dusapin Requiem, and the Haydn):

That blue-gray one is the one I was thinking of; maybe there is a different box with four discs that has both the TRANSCRIPTIONS?  I'm not aware of it.

That would be the first box I posted.

Sarge, what I want to know is:  What is that book?  There is one, whose title looks like 'MOO'.  ;D

I have a deep and abiding interest in animal husbandry. The book is an in depth study of the domestication of the cow  :D

Actually, it's a novel by Pulitzer prize winning author Jane Smiley: a satiric black comedy set in a midwestern university that's known for its agricultural programs; nicknamed Moo U.

Great, great Mozart...that little G minor the best I've ever heard. Even though I have all these performances on LP, and all but the Linz and some of the  Overtures on CD, I'm still tempted by that box. Duplication be damned.

Thanks, Sarge.  Bet you thought no one would have asked about that, eh?  Only from a nut, of course.  ;)

Oh, phooey! Presto didn't have that box. And Amazon MP has it for $16 shipped. I wonder if I can alter my Presto order.

Landed today and already received a first listen.

I regret to say that my socks were never in danger of being knocked off.

However, the chamber works and the organ sonata are definitely works that I'll be returning to with interest, and which were definitely first class material.  The piano concerto veered rather dangerously into migraine territory with all that percussion for a few moments, then seemed to mistake itself for a jazz band for a couple of seconds, and then really mixed things up, and left me more puzzled than anything else.   I will revisit it, but only with Tylenol in hand (I'm not kidding about the migraine).

Just listened to this on Spotify, the Mozart is quite a different breed. Considering it for sure.

Sorry about the migraine, Jeffrey! In my defense, all I can say is, my enthusiasm for the piece is genuine : )

Very glad that the String Quartet &c. serve as an ingratiating Plan B!
