O, dear God, what a loss, what a tragedy, she was not that old. I started to appreciate the earlier recordings with her. No doubt this will be devastating to family and music lovers. May she rest in peace and sing in the heavenly choirs.

The soprano Montserrat Figueras, wife and artistic partner of the musician Jordi Savall, has died in Barcelona at the age of 63.

Specialized in Early Music, she created with her husband the ensemble Hespèrion XX, the choir La Capella Reial de Catalunya and the orchestra Le Concert des Nations, to promote Medieval, Baroque and Renaissance music.

She was a great interpreter of Claudio Monteverdi and her interpretations of the Cant de la Sibil and the Llibre Vermell de Monserrat are particularly praised. The soundtrack of the film Tous les matins du monde spread her work among the general public.

Born on March 7, 1948 in Barcelona, she was musically trained in Basel (Switzerland). This year she received the Creu de Sant Jordi

I was shocked to hear this. Just heard her about two years ago, when she performed here with Savall, and she looked so vital and healthy. Very sad news.
