Some of those Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky operas look very tempting.  :-\

I know....  8) Please PM me if there are some MUST haves among them!  :)

The Tsars Bride and The Snow Maiden are both wonderful operas. I'm much less versed in Tchaikovsky beyond Onegin and Pique Dame unfortunately.

And I bought this one, too ... no details online, it's mostly young artists:

https://shop.nzz.ch/sortiment/nzz-editionen/6398/nzz-am-sonntag-klassik-musikbox

includes, among many other things:

- Mozart Symphonies 39-41: Le Cercle de l'Harmonie/Jérémie Rhorer
- Beethoven PC 3: Francesco Piemontesi, COE/Norrington
- Bach Motet "Jesu, meine Freude", Britten Hymn to St. Cecilia, Mozart Requiem: Gabrieli/McCreesh

There is plenty of good repertoire (Enescu Octet, Schönberg Verkärte nacht in string sextet vesion) and recent/contemporary stuff including some by Swiss composers (by Giovanni Solima, Marc-André Dalbavie, Christoph Blum, Kancheli's Chiaroscuro), the Lucerne Festival disc is particularly interesting: Webern Six Pieces Op. 6 (first version), Olga Neuwirth (Trurliade - Zone Zero), a short piece by Rihm (Gruss-Moment), and Ligeti (San Francisco Polyphony) (Pintcher does the Rihm and Ligeti, Susanna Mälkki the other two, all with the Festival Academy orchestra).

There is a recital by Sol Gabetta/Bertrand Chamayou (from the Solsberg Festival, obviously) with Shostakovich (from "Jewish Folk Poetry" Op. 79, Cello sonata), Rachmaninov (Cello sonata) and Bloch (from "Jewish Life"), there is a Bach concerto (BWV 1065) by Argerich, Kissin, Levine (he also does Mahler 5 with the Verbier Orchestra) and Pletnev.

And there is plenty of standard rep played by younger musicians or festival orchestras (Brahms Piano Trio No. 1, Beethoven "Ghost" Trio, Enescu Romanian Rhapsody No. 1, Haydn Symphony Nos. 6 "Le Matin" and 88).

Seems interesting enough, though it's pretty pricey right now - it will be sold at all the festivals featured during the summer, and then also hit the usual stores, it seems (it's co-produced by Sony) and I guess price will drop, eventually ...

Also showing up are Ian Bostridge, Regula Mühlemann, Joshua Bell/Leonidas Kavakos, the Schumann and Casals quartets

Very nice.  ;)

And expensive, very expensive ;)

(Add to today's haul the Zig Zag haul from several weeks back ... that was when the rooms of the distributor were flooded, now they're in the midst of refurbishing ... I waded through the water that morning and they just took a note of what I took with me, so I had to cover that bill today as well, ouch!  :o )

Good choice. It's a shame Hyperion's Complete Brahms Chamber music box set is out of print. Good thing I have it, though ;)

Would you say that it is the best box with Brahms chamber music?

It contains the Raphael Ensemble recordings of the quintets and sextets, which are also superb.

I don't really have much to compare it with but the Raphael Ensemble's Quintets and Sextets, New Budapest Quartet's SQs and PQnt with Piers Lane, Hamelin & Leopold String Trio's PQrts, the Florestan Trio recordings, Dame Thea King's Clarinet Sonatas and Quintet with Gabrielis, Osostowicz & Tomes' Violin Sonatas, and Power's recordings of the Clarinet Sonatas and Trio arranged for viola are, as Scarpia says of the Raphael, superb. And I can't find fault in Isserlis' first go at the Cello Sonatas, with Peter Evans, either.

In short, yes. Here's a longish review of mine from back then: http://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2008/Nov08/Brahms_Chamber_cds4433142.htm

Yes, it does .... I've been a big fan of the alpha label for before already, but Arcana and some other stuff I've become hooked to by the opportunity and by recommendations picked up talking to the guy there who really knows his stuff! He's into Hyperion a lot, which I am not really, but I've picked up some (such as the gorgeous new Schubert disc by Hamelin w/D 960 and D 935) and was also gifted a pair of Hewitt's Mozart concerto discs (as I mentioned not knowing Hewitt at all yet ...) and have made plenty of other fine discoveries. They also have Hat now, as it was bought by Outhere, so the jazz fan gets his fix there, too (and the Hat[Now] catalogue has been a favourite for a long time, too).
