Already quite a tradition at GMG! :)

Now the last month of the year has begun (and considering GMG turns rather dead by the time the holidays arrive... 0:)) it is time for a round-up of your favourite purchases and amazing musical discoveries of this year.

Pleast post your favourites of the year, whether long standing or brand new recordings issued the past year. 8)  Mention as many as you like. :)

Old Listener

Fleisher / Szell / Cleveland Orchastra - Grieg and Schumann piano concerti.  The remastering job makes these performances more enjoyable than the old CDs were.

Gunter Wand / Guzenich Orchestra of Cologne -  Mozart Symphonies 36,38 and 39 on Testament.

and

Carbonare / Abbado / Orchestra Mozart - Mozart Clarinet Concerto

Of course, there were a number of other very good purchases.

Papy Oli

in no particular order :

Moscheles - Piano Concertos 4 & 5 (Howard Shelley)
Martinu - Chamber Music (Darlington Ensemble)
Tchaikovsky - Great Ballets (Ansermet)
Berg/Schoenberg/Webern boxset (Staatskapelle Dresden, Giuseppe Sinopoli)
Rimsky-Korsakov boxset (Svetlanov)
Glazunov symphonies (Serebrier)
Beethoven sonatas (Backhaus)
Beethoven sonatas (Kempff Mono)
Haydn SQ (Quatuor mosaiques)

Too many other purchases are too recent and / or not gone through yet...

PS : ...oh and Kind of Blue, Saxophone Colossus, Moanin', the Bridge, Soul Station, Somethin' Else, Waltz for Debby, In a Silent way, Monk Riverside recordings.... These actually trump classical music in terms of discovery impact for 2013 (except Backhaus and Mosaiques)  8)

This year HMV collapsed in January and I picked up so many great deals there. It was the 200th Birthday anniversary of 2 of the greatest opera composers in the history of Western Classical music: Herr Wagner & Signor Verdi. I discovered so many new composers so here we go. These are my favorite purchases of 2013:

Vagn Holmboe Four Symphonic Metamorphosis
John Cage Cheap Imitations

You warm the cockles of my heart.  'Cheap Imitation' is the future of mental balance in all nations.
That Furtwangler megabox is so good too, though I got mine in summer of 2012 and am still not all the way through it.   :-X

Lots of great and great-looking items in this thread.  I hate this thread.
