12tone.

So how about Beethoven's 9th longer than 50 mintues?  What would you say to that?

What about 70 mintues?

What would you say if someone stretched it to say....

24 hours?

I have a few responses:

1. Thanks 12 Tone.  :)

2. Told ya, guys, you can't put Beethoven into a box. He even classifies as ambient.   ;D

3. Gurn should be happy. Today he can listen to his Sunday LvB 9th all day.  ;D ;D

4. They should show on the stream where you are in the score.  :-\

Perhaps Leif Inge has a bit too much time on his hands ...........

Yeah, but his is second slowest...Furtwangler still holds that title.  ;D

Well, if you take all the repeats in the scherzo... :o

But of course this is not the question.  I am not familiar with the Furtwängler recording, but knowing something of Furtwängler's work, I'd guess those who listen aren't even aware of the time passing, at least not in those artificial human constructions called minutes and seconds.  And it's entirely possible that an inferior leader would take less time than Furtwängler and still take too long. ::)

how about you stretch it to 0', the piece of crap
You can do that.  Just don't play it! ;D

Now let's work on a condensed, extremely fast version. Perhaps a length of 4'33'' would be good?

Read Ub's signature line, Josquin. ;)

I was talking about the idea of having Beethoven's 9th stretched to 24 hours.  ;)

Oh.  In that case, simply set your player to "Repeat." ;D

Isn't that, simply, normal?

Are you sure? I think Celi's is longer.

Name ONE recording of Beethoven's 9th that is 50 minutes! 70 may seem a bit long (Giulini's is 71, BTW), but I have never heard anyone do it in 50 as suggested in the original post. That would be ridiculously fast.

Not as I remember it, though it is years since I last heard it.

Maybe, just maybe, under an hour.  But "pretty close to 50 minutes"?  Show me the document!  ;D
