What does it mean if a bruise won't heal? There is a yellow bruise on my shin which must be there for a long time, from when I used to skateboard. I can't think of anything else that would hit that spot. Its even stranger because its on my left leg, when the right shin is what would more often get hit skateboarding...

Are there more bruises on your body?
Same color?
How long is it there to your knowledge?
If a bruise does not heal, it could mean a lot of things.
So first facts straight!
Internet is also a good source to find answers to that question.

There is 1 really small one under my right knee, nowhere else. They have to be spots where the skateboard has hit me, but its been awhile since I have skateboarded. Like I said my left leg is much less common, but I have a nice sized bruise on the shin. What could it mean? I didnt really notice it much but it might have been there like a year.. ewww

If that is so my friend, that it has been there for a year, or might have been, you must consult a doctor about it.
A bruis will take, lets say from 1-2 weeks to disappear, unless the trauma was severe. In your case that is not.
I am not going to speculate about it, for that will lead to nowhere.
It could mean many things, so you rather let a doctor take a look at it, oke?

True, but I have .17 cents in my bank account, not sure which doctor would check it for that.

In Holland you would be insured for that, but that will not help you.
Oke, when you push on it will it change color? Has it other colorations in the yellow?
Is it painful when you push on it.
Is the skin surface intact?
When did you notice it?
And how long is it there?
How big is it?
Check the rest of your body on bruises.

Yay America! How awesome is this country?
Well it doesnt hurt if I push it and it doesnt really change color. I rememver seeing it in the shower awhile ago but didnt think much of it till today when I saw it still there.  Maybe like 8 months ago. Its probably an inch in diameter and theres a tiny one under my knee of the same color. I dont have bruises anywhere else which is when I concluded they both must be from skateboarding.

Then stop doing skateboarding for a while, and see if they disappear will ya!
No pain, no changing color, well that's good news.
So two bruises in total?

looja

Personally I don't think its realy anything...I have bruise like sports on my lower back for example and they have been there a long time. They are not big but noticable. It might be just that your blood circulation is interrupted in  that place which might be a result of multiple damages on the sport earlier in your life...and they won't realy go away...Though just speculating, ain't no doctor:D

The thing is i cant think of why I would hit my left leg. I skateboard goofy so my left leg is the back one. It would be common then to hit the same spot on the right leg doing a flip trick but not the back foot. It sure is a mystery.

Well I took a picture, its easier to show than explain. Beware, its gross! But maybe someone could tell me if its anything to worry about.

Mozart

Eeeek I guess there isnt enough of a warning! Sorry

See a doctor dude!

looja

well usually thing with diseases is that, the symptoms should reveal itself way faster than you have had the bruise. So I think it realy is not anything. And usually if it is anything, you should have some other symptoms also...which in your case I Don't think you have.

looja

But to be sure, It might be a good idea to visit the doctor... ::)

Harry

Such a bruise being there for at least 8 months, is subject for a doctor.
Lets first diagnose what's wrong.

Larry Rinkel

Mozart, the bruise could well be normal (it will go through various changes of color, from red-purple to yellow to brown to clear), but if it's been around for a long time you must have it looked at. What concerns me more than the bruise itself is the fact that you are apparently unable or unwilling to seek medical attention. I don't know your age or your personal circumstances, but do you have no medical insurance at all? If you're in college (as I seem to remember), there should be some health clinic on campus; or if you're a dependent you may be covered under your parents' policy. But in general, you don't want to be without medical coverage in the USA if you can possibly avoid it. Even if you're fairly young, it's a good idea to know about things like your cholesterol, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and the like to prevent possible problems down the road; and you should see a doctor annually to get a checkup on your overall health.

lol, and Daidalos (who is Sweden) informed me that they're college is completely free.

that's it, I'm moving to Europe......

if you don't have money for a doctor, maybe you can find a witch doctor? (they might take 17 cents)
