Google "The Puccini of Music"
Please do not post the results. Although, if you know the source of the quote and the original target, please post that. That's what got me started.

The Puccini of Music?

A strong candidate would have to be...Puccini!

After Googling the phrase, I found a scholarly article on the theory of analogical arguments.  A footnote referenced a Stravinsky witticism about Wagner, or Verdi,  being the Puccini of music.

Interesting bouquet ... but too dry for my taste.

I have something better: a song about Puccini (and Wagner!). Among the finest (i.e. traumatic) offerings of Greek trash-TV:

Thanks, Tasos--I had wondered whatever happened to Melina Mercouri.  ;)

I'll just say that I know who the subject of the quote was, and also who said the quote... and given who that was, it's not too surprising  ;)

-- added later --
Well, I went and googled as you requested, and now I'm not so sure -- the person I thought said it is only one of several it's attributed to! In fact, my person doesn't show up on the first page of results.

Your result was the same as mine. I was surprised to see how many composers were made the target; several I'd've never expected. Still have a hunch as to the source.'
???
Puccini is the target (the suggestion being that whatever he did, it wasn't music).
