I recently added a subwoofer to supplement that precise range.  The difference was noticeable in a few passage, but I wouldn't say in improved the feeling of fidelity of gave a distinctly "live" feeling.

My experience is that the low bass gives a greater sense of space and depth.

I checked the specs, which say that my main speakers have a frequency range extended to 28Hz, although the 3db point is in the mid 30's  Evidently the sub is not so urgently needed, although as I said, it makes a noticeable difference when there is a bass drum or other similar source of noise in the mix.

Mid 30s sounds like plenty of bass to me, if you can actually get that in your room.  The organ in Also Sprach Zarathrustra should come through well.  Bass drops off quickly under 50 Hz for my system.  I estimate that the volume of my room is over 8000 cubic feet.  According to the Velodyne site, I'd need two of their biggest subwoofers to get deep bass.
