A choice that shows wisdom & discrimination. And one that will bring you much joy.

But note that in Germany--and within a few weeks/months in the US--the complete Haydn String Quartets with the Quatuor Mosaiques have been/will be issued in two money (but not space)-saving boxes.

Given the strong Euro, they're not much cheaper in Germany, come to think of it.

They have been available in the UK since the end of the last year. When they were released there was even a nice discount at PC, and just when I was considering buying a volume, Naive was one among many labels which lost its distributor or something in the UK. :(

Unless I miss my guess, this will become a beloved favorite.

Nice choice!  :)

Yes, I know. Good kitty she is.

As I am sure you know Jens, she has actually just marked your Beethoven set with her scent (via glands in the head) in order to let the world know that those LvB cds actually now belong to her.  Therefore, I can safely conclude, at this end, that your cat has impeccable taste. :)

I love that Das Lied.  I will be interested to hear what you think.

It's impeccable and deeply felt. Das Lied is one of those works that have had so many excellent modern recordings that they give old classics a mighty run for their money. Actually, a case can be made for recommending 3 - 4 recordings made in the past 20 years and rest content with the results.

What the cat dragged in:

Beethoven, op.18/1, op. 59/1
Hagen Quartet, DG

Please, please, please train your cat to fetch this one if the proverbial house is burning down.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Looks nice! I bet it was cheap too.

While I got the Kempff's Bach Keyboard Works at a decent price, it was not that cheap (just under $13) since it is not so widely available.
