Now that Caiman is gone, I guess B&N is jumping into their special niche.   ::)

Caiman went out of business?  I have never bought anything from Caiman ...

Ages ago.

I bough several discs. Caiman had good deals even if sometimes the delivery took some extra time.  :D
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

I thought Caiman was rebranded as "Tower Records" after Tower was liquidated and Caiman bought the trade mark and took over the Tower web site.

I think I have seen both Caiman and Tower listed on Amazon Market Place a while back.  I bought many CD's from the Tower Records brick and mortar stores in NYC years ago ...

When Tower Records was taken over by the liquidators, TOWER.com was sold separately. Caiman took that part over, early 2007, and tried to use it as a platform for their sales. But it kind of sucked... and eventually they went out of business. Now Tower.com has a new ownership and they are trying to completely revamp the site and make it a feasible shopping experience again. You may have received an e-mail that their new CEO has recently sent around a mail saying so much...

Well, I made a 'small' order on the Amazon Marketplace today based on a number of recommendations here and some updating of CDs in my collection:

Bach, JS - English Suites w/ Perahia - recommended for a 'piano' option in a recent thread!

Korngold, Erich - Orchestral Works w/ many - Symphony seems to be a strong recommendation here!

Korngold, Erich - Cello Concerto et al - just 'filling out' my collection for this composer?

Prokofiev, Segey - Romeo & Juliet w/ Maazel - have a single CD, so just going for it ALL!

I was familiar with the story, except for the part about tower.com being taken over from Caiman by a new entity.   I thought Tower was fine when Caiman was running it, but the prices are no longer as good, perhaps correlated with new ownership.

Selling music is a brutal business.  e-tailers can go down just like brick and mortar stores, though they probably have more staying power due to much lower overhead ...

Made a few purchases with Amazon and an Amazon Market Place vendor this evening.  While I have a good number of Furtwangler's recordings on LP, this is only my second CD ...

Nice one to have on the shelf, Stuart.

I went with Music & Arts as I have heard M&A has better remastering than EMI, which also has released some Beethoven Symphonies by Furtwangler.   The only Furtwangler's CD I currently have is his B9 with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.  I have the following set on LP, which was recorded live and released on the Cetra label ...

Trying to stay ahead of the deletion axe.
Though this may be my last purchase in this series: next are two volumes of organ works and samples sound frightfully boring - if it is Van Asperen or Froberger that does not "got it" on the organ, I don't know.

Looks very enticing.  Unfortunately, my plan for a high quality SACD player got derailed by my mounting vets bills at the moment ...

Just placed an order on this set by Karl Richter at a great price.  While Richter's performance might not be HIP, he was the most in tune with Bach works compared with most of his contemporaries, from Karajan to Jochum ...

Seventeen CDs arrived today. Korngold string quartets (opted for the CPO cycle--no good reason. I just liked the cover  :D ); Second Viennese School string quartets performed by the Lasalle; the Schäfer/Boulez Pierrot Lunaire, finally mid-price; the Mensch recommended Alpensinfonie; the complete Lieder of Pfitzner in a bulky box with five jewel cases; Anna Gourari playing mazurkas (I love her perverse Chopin interpretations); and Erkki Melartin (1875-1937) symphonies. Melartin was a Finn influenced by Mahler instead of Sibelius. A must hear for me.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

I ordered this first on the basis of Wanderer advice, and secondly because this set can be had for just 9,99 from JPC.
