Erato & Harry - will be quite interested in your future comments of the disc below - present own nothing by Boris Tchaikovsky (1925-1996) - no relation to Peter T., I see -  :)

I've had this Hyperion disc for about 6 years, and it's a beauty with a fine balance of severity and sweetness.  Although Boris wasn't much for experimentation, he does use dissonance which is very easy to understand and enjoy.  Recommended without reservations.

Don - thanks for your comments!  I was just at BRO and put in a 'small' order for 4 discs - the Boris T. CD was there (re-stocked), so will be in the mail to me shortly!  Dave

Sergeant Rock

A couple of items from Amazon sellers in the mail today. Wanderer recommended the Korngold. I can't recall where I read a glowing review of the Eichendorff Lieder, or by whom, but it was convincing.

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Yes thanks. I have the double CD of the string quartets on Northern Flowers, but otherwise is a newbie to this composer.

Speaking for myself, I suspect the Boulez/Berg box is not far behind.

The new erato

Besides the Boris Tchaikovsky, I also clicked on these in the same order:

The new erato

Order from mdt:

One of my favorite composers, and the previous issue of Le Vin Herbe is essentail (and d..n the fact that I have Golgotha on Erato already; this work deserves multiple recordings).

Added this from this fine series:

George

After enjoying his book two of these this morning, I had to grab this one. I love his dark, sumptuous take on these works.

Just placed a small order this afternoon with a New England Amazon Market Place vendor that has a great deal on this set ...

Two superb purchases!!!! I love Frank Martin, too... and that new d'Indy series is really doing justice to a composer who has (apparently, since I didn't think that until I've heard these performances) from loveless interpretations.
